What better way to spend a late summer eve than with one of the coolest couples? Keep reading to see the highlights from Francesca + Josh’s mountain engagement photos at Mt. Baker!
This adventure engagement session was one for the books. Fran and I know each other from our sorority in college, so it was a huge honor that she wanted me to capture this for them.
A lil’ “how they met” story: it all happened at work! Josh was Fran’s “work husband,” then they developed actual crushes on each other and the rest is history.
They love coming to the Mt. Baker ski area in the wintertime to go skiing, so we knew it was the perfect spot for their engagement photos! It was special for them to visit during the summer and experience a totally different landscape – one without tons of snow and stunning lake views in the mountains.
We met up in Bellingham that afternoon at a Haggen grocery store, loaded up on plenty of snacks, and carpooled out to the Baker area together. Francesca + Josh wanted to shoot at this specific location on the mountain and I’m damn glad they did – it ended up being the perfect spot!
When you drive up to the Baker area, one of the most popular spots to visit is Artist Point. You get the most incredible mountain views without having to hike too much (you can park & walk to beautiful spots, or walk a short distance to get even more!), plus beautiful blue water with mountain reflections on sunny days. The absolute perfect spot to frolick through the mountains in the summertime!
One important thing to note about Artist Point: the final 1.8-mile stretch of road to access the spot closes down in the winter, or when it starts to get snowy. You’re still able to get to Artist Point, but you’ll need to park further down the road and hike the final 1.8 miles. So if you’re down for that, go for it – but don’t go visiting in the winter expecting to drive the whole way up! Keep your eye on the WSDOT site for details about road closures.
This area of the mountain is also an awesome one because there are multiple spots you can stop at along the way. The drive up the mountain itself is nothing short of incredible, with scenic views all around, and you can stop at different viewpoints to explore. Different spots have different hikes you can take, like the Lake Ann Trail or the Austin Pass Trail a little further down the mountain.
I 100% recommend giving yourself time to explore all the different spots around this area because I promise ya – each spot is so worth the time!
